YIHAO CAI is a photographer based in Melbourne, Victoria. He began photographing at the age of eight and has developed a practice spanning street, wedding, and documentary photography, with a focus on natural moments and human presence.

His current research centres on monochrome image-making, treating black and white not as a style but as a method to study form, texture, and tonal structure. By removing colour, his work emphasises composition and subject relationships with greater clarity. Light and darkness operate as narrative tools in his photographs, shaping emotion and atmosphere through contrast, shadow, and negative space, producing images that feel restrained, cinematic, and psychologically focused.
